2023, by Ruth Abernethy, Toronto, Ontario

The commemorative portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, installed at Queen’s Park in Toronto in 2023, honours her enduring connection to Canada. Requested at 150% life-size, the bronze sculpture depicts Her Majesty seated on the Throne of Canada, a regal and dignified representation based on her address to the Canadian Parliament in 1977. She holds a spray of 13 maple leaves, symbolizing Canada’s provinces and territories. The seated figure rests atop a granite plinth measuring 11′ 6″ x 11′ x 9′, with the bronze casting itself standing 6′ x 7′ x 13′ high. The piece was cast and assembled by MST Bronze Ltd.
